Those rules connect eating with spirituality, with an understanding that all food is a gift. Choice of food is limited, as is how food is prepared. Animals must be humanely killed.

[0:36:47] Running Popup: John remembers being not very inellectual. It was a close call.
[0:39:08] Flipside of the Coin: It’s hard to be friendly let’s be well together people when we run into oblivious people. Oblivious people are frustrating.
Quotes and Take-Aways:
Julie – There’s always going to be more waves. There will be other good times. This too shall pass.
Simon – The primary restriction [under Kashrut], that most people will have some vague familiarity with, is that we don’t eat pig. That is a small portion of a much larger rule that says any mammal that is going to be eaten has to have both a cloven hoof (a split hoof) and chew its cud.
Simon – The second point about dealing with mammals is that they have to be humanely killed.
Simon – The whole point of Kashrut probably being to require people to think about their food as connected to spirituality and not just to satisfy your animal instincts.
Simon – It is prohibited as a regulation out of the bible to mix meat and milk. That goes to prevent any contact between any kind of dairy product and any kind of meat product.
John – As part of social wellness, you’ve got to be aware of the people around you. You’ve got to be aware of the circumstances you’re in. It’s just common sense.
Bulletin Board Quote brought to you by Laurie: But he was naked. Full commando.
Guest Information: Simon Adler is enjoying retirement after a career as a commercial litigation lawyer. He spits his time between Canada and Israel to enjoy time with grandchildren.
